Job Summary
GP Assistant – urgent care service for Barrow Together PCN, operated by Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative (MBPCC). The service will start late summer 2025 in a building undergoing clinical refit. The role supports GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner teams by performing routine administration and basic clinical tasks.
Responsibilities
* Arrange appointments, referrals, tests and follow‑up appointments.
* Sort clinical post and prioritise actions for the GP.
* Signpost patients to other services such as clinical pharmacist.
* Extract information from clinical letters for coding and add to notes.
* Assist GP liaising with outside agencies (e.g., on‑call doctor).
* Support administration for the urgent care service.
* Support GP urgent care workload.
* Complete basic non‑opinion forms and core elements of forms for GP approval.
* Build and maintain relationships with wider practice teams.
* Carry out simple clinical work (blood pressures & phlebotomy).
* Communicate friendly and professional manner.
Key Objectives & Care Coordination
* Manage recalls, follow‑ups and patient support across the service.
* Complete basic non‑opinion forms and core elements of forms for GP approval.
* Work across the PCN to improve care for urgent care patients.
* Support communication between patients and the clinical team.
* Recognise patients’ needs for alternative communication methods and respond accordingly.
* Provide advice, guidance and signposting to appropriate services (pharmacy, physiotherapy, social prescribing).
* Ensure all activities are monitored and evaluated.
Qualifications & Essential Experience
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience in General Practice.
* Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft 365.
* Ability to work well within a team.
* Able to identify professional boundaries and what to do when they have been reached.
* Experience working with the general public.
* Educated to GCSE grade A‑C equivalent in Maths and English.
Desirable
* An understanding of what a Primary Care Network is.
* Previous experience in Primary Care or a similar role.
* Experience using EMIS.
* Experience of electronic patient records.
* Evidence of continuing education and professional development in previous roles.
* Full driving licence and access to transport.
Compensation
£12.21 per hour (depending on experience).
Contract & Working Pattern
Permanent, full‑time.
