We have an exciting opportunity for a Salaried GP to join our dispensing practice with just under 8,000 patients. We are a dynamic and supportive training practice who strive to provide excellent clinical care and patient services. We value a work-life balance with an emphasis on the outdoors, all while positioned a stone's throw from the sea we remain in the heart of the local community.

The practice clinical team consists of eight GPs (five partners), three Practice Nurses, three Health Care Assistants and one Phlebotomists. We have a dynamic management team and a fun, loyal and experienced non-clinical team. We are rated Good by CQC, achieve high QOF results each year and are an active part of The Coastal Primary Care Network.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual who will work well within our highly valued practice team and who will be proactive in helping shape the future of the surgery and its position within the community.


Main duties of the job

Clinical assessment Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and undifferentiated symptoms through consultations (facetoface, telephone, or online).

Prescribing and medication management Issue prescriptions safely, review medications, and follow NHS prescribing guidelines.

Continuity of care Provide ongoing management for long term conditions.

Preventive care Deliver health, vaccination, screening, and lifestyle advice/promotion, and early intervention work.

Referrals and coordination Refer patients to secondary care, community services, and allied health professionals; interpret hospital letters and test results.

Home visits and urgent care Assess housebound or frail patients when clinically necessary and manage same day urgent presentations.

Practice teamwork Work with nurses, paramedics, social prescribers, and admin teams to deliver integrated care.

Record keeping Maintain accurate, timely clinical notes and ensure compliance with medicolegal and safeguarding requirements.

Quality and governance Participate in audits, significant event reviews, training, and quality improvement activities.

Safeguarding Identify and act on concerns involving children or vulnerable adults.

Job responsibilities

REPORTS TO The GP Partners (Dr A Cockroft, Dr L Collins, Dr E Docherty, Dr C Moore and Dr S Wilding ) and The Practice Manager (Lucy Dawes).

HOURS Four or five sessions per week plus equitable shares of home visits, care home work, and on-call duty sessions.

CONTRACT TYPE permanent part time salaried GP position

ROLE SUMMARY The post-holder will provide general medical services while dealing with a wide range of health needs in the primary care setting to ensure the highest standard of care for all patients.

ANNUAL LEAVE Six weeks annual leave plus public holidays (FTE or pro-rata for any future p/t positions).

CLINICAL RESPOSIBILITIES

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN THE PCN

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

A commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation

Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records

Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read‑Coding patient data

Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Person Specification


Experience

* Clinical competence Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage undifferentiated presentations, acute illness, and long term conditions.
* Safe prescribing Demonstrated understanding of evidence based prescribing and medicines optimisation.
* Communication skills Clear, empathetic communication with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Teamworking Ability to work collaboratively within a primary care team and contribute to shared decision making.
* Record keeping Accurate, timely documentation in line with medico legal and safeguarding requirements.
* Safeguarding competence Up to date Level 3 safeguarding training for children and adults.
* Professionalism Commitment to confidentiality, equality, diversity, and high quality patient centred care.
* Adaptability Ability to manage workload, prioritise effectively, and work under pressure.


Qualifications

* GMC registration Fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise.
* MRCGP qualification Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (or equivalent training/experience).
* NHS performers list Inclusion on the England Medical Performers List.
* Special interests Additional clinical skills such as dermatology, womens health, minor surgery, MSK, or mental health.
* Teaching experience Experience supervising medical students, FY2s, or GP trainees.
