Role Overview
At Babcock, you’ll be part of the Facility Upgrade Programme Manager role at the Devonport Royal Dockyard site. Working in the Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) Department, you will lead the upgrade strategy that supports the submarine programme. The role is full‑time (35 hours a week) and based on site. You’ll oversee multiple workstreams, manage schedules, risks and dependencies, and communicate progress to stakeholders while maintaining day‑to‑day operations and maintenance.
Responsibilities
* Create, own, implement and manage a facility upgrade process that captures plant demands at a tactical level and considers requirements from the boats.
* Create and deliver an integrated facility upgrade programme using project controls and fundamentals such as schedule management, risk management, change management, stakeholder management and resource management.
* Have a collaborative mindset, listen, handle conflict constructively and bring a positive, open‑minded attitude to the team.
* Prioritise critical tasks, take initiative to solve problems, identify risks early and manage complex, shifting environments.
* Ensure detailed planning and delivery of facility upgrades on time and on budget, mitigating risks and ensuring synergy across the programme while minimising disruption to RWM operations and maintenance.
* Interface closely with RWM plant management and the RWM project team to link the upgrade process seamlessly with the annual plan.
* Work closely with plant management to focus on closing out Change Requests (CRs) and minimising disruption to RWM operations and maintenance.
* Report outcomes of delivery planning to the Head of Radioactive Waste, RWM Programme Integration Manager, RWM Plant Manager and Nuclear Operations Maintenance Manager.
Key Skills and Experience
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to communicate with diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
* Relevant and extensive experience in project management and project controls (schedule, risk, change, stakeholder management etc).
* Experience working within a nuclear facility – Desirable.
* Experience working with the change request (CR) process – Desirable.
Qualifications
* Level 5 qualification in Engineering – Desirable.
* NVQ Level 4 in Engineering or demonstrable experience.
* APM PMQ – Desirable.
* APM Project Risk Management Level 1 – Desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who can achieve and maintain a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
