As a Lead Design Engineer you will lead and coordinate the multi-disciplinary design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects—covering feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction support and handover—ensuring safe, compliant, innovative and cost-effective solutions for utility clients.

Technical Leadership

* Lead the delivery of multi-disciplinary design, ensuring alignment across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process and ICA engineering disciplines.
* Develop and review design packages, including calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and digital models.
* Ensure designs meet all technical, safety, environmental, legislative and quality standards, including CDM responsibilities.
* Identify and drive innovative, low-carbon, and optimised technical solutions, supporting clients' sustainability objectives.
* Apply and promote digital design tools and methods (e.g., BIM, advanced modelling, digital workflows).

Project Delivery

* Manage technical delivery across all stages of the project lifecycle: feasibility, optioneering, design, construction support, commissioning and handover.
* Coordinate programme, budget and risk management activities, ensuring delivery to scope, time, cost and quality.
* Provide technical support during construction, addressing design queries, site issues and compliance checks.
* Contribute to bid preparation, technical proposals, and design governance reviews.

Team & People Leadership

* Line-manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, developing capability and ensuring competency.
* Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that supports innovation, wellbeing and professional growth.
* Coordinate resources across projects, resolving constraints and supporting workload planning.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

* Act as a technical focal point for client engagement, providing clear communication and maintaining strong relationships
* Represent the business at client meetings, design reviews, stakeholder workshops and industry events.
* Understand client drivers and translate them into effective engineering solutions that deliver value.

Essential

* Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or related engineering discipline.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working toward CEng with ICE, IMechE, IET or CIWEM.
* Significant experience delivering water or wastewater treatment, pipeline, pumping station or related infrastructure designs.
* Experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams on medium–large scale projects.
* Knowledge of relevant UK design standards, regulatory requirements, and CDM 2015 responsibilities.

Desirable

* Experience using digital design tools such as Revit, Civil3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation or BIM platforms.
* Understanding of process modelling, hydraulic modelling or ICA system design.
* Experience working in a Design & Build environment and familiarity with NEC contract mechanisms.
* Experience delivering AMP programme work for UK water companies.

Pay: £50,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
