We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Intermodal Transport Team in Birmingham. This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in coordinating the movement of containers to and from UK ports and customer locations across the country.
This is an entry level training position. If you are already qualified or experienced in this area of work, this is unlikely to be the position for you. However, we would welcome your application for one of our other vacancies.
How you create impact
Our Apprenticeship is a 24 month programme, combining practical on-the-job training with study towards the International Freight Forwarding Level 3 apprenticeship. You will work within a successful team while learning everything you need to know whilst supported by your peers, your managers, and the apprenticeship team within Kuehne+Nagel. You will be providing operational support to customer facing teams to ensure that our customer expectations are met/exceeded. You will be in communication with a variety of people, including other KN offices and shipping lines. It is a varied role and your training will equip you to be involved in problem solving, finance tracking and supporting the department with their day-to-day duties.
You’ll be learning how to…
* Coordinate the end-to-end transport process from shipment arrival to delivery
* Aligning with our Customer Care Teams to meet and exceed our Customer’s requirements
* Plan transport activities utilising rail services and road haulage partners
* Manage in import container release and empty restitution processes with shipping lines
* Liaise with suppliers, shipping lines to resolve any issues that arise during the haulage process
* Carry out proactive checks to ensure transport plans are being executed as required
* Monitor live transport activities, reporting any delays to Customers
What we would like you to bring
The minimum entry requirement for this apprenticeship is Five GCSEs at grades 3 – 9 / A*-D including Maths & English.
Our company values candidates who are passionate about providing excellent customer service, have a strong work ethic, and can communicate effectively with others. Good planning and organization skills are important, and you will need the ability to multitask and be a self-starter.
Previous use of Microsoft Outlook and Excel is beneficial.

* Working hours: Monday – Friday – Days - 37.5hrs per week
* Place of work: On Site - 3 Avenue Road, Aston, Birmingham (B6 4DU) - please check location to ensure is commutable
Recruitment Process
1. Step 1: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
2. Step 2: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a telephone screening call with a member of our Talent Acquisition team. 3. Step 3: A final shortlist of candidates will be invited to an interview onsite with two members of the hiring team.
4. Step 4: All candidates will receive telephone feedback after their interviews and if offered will be invited to return to the office for a further site tour and to provide right to work documentation.
