Role Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support and guidance to students with SEN, ensuring they receive the additional help and resources they need to thrive in their learning journey. Your key responsibilities will include: Personalised Support: Working closely with SENCOs and classroom teachers to implement individualised learning plans and interventions, adapting teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of students and promote inclusive education. One-to-One Assistance: Providing one-to-one support to students with SEN, helping to reinforce learning objectives, develop essential skills, and build confidence and independence in their academic abilities. Small Group Sessions: Facilitating small group sessions to deliver targeted interventions, focusing on specific areas of need, and supporting students to overcome barriers to learning, enhance their understanding, and achieve their academic goals. Behavioural and Emotional Support: Implementing positive behaviour management strategies and offering pastoral care and emotional support to students, helping them to develop social skills, resilience, and self-esteem, and promoting a positive and nurturing learning environment. Collaborative Working: Collaborating with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to share insights, gather feedback, and develop strategies to support the holistic development and wellbeing of students with SEN. Resource Preparation and Organisation: Assisting in the preparation and organisation of SEN-specific resources and materials, ensuring they are accessible, engaging, and suitable for the individual needs of students, and supporting the smooth running of SEN provisions within the school. Requirements: Previous experience working with students with SEN, either in an educational setting or through voluntary work, with a genuine passion for supporting and empowering young people with diverse needs. A compassionate and patient approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers. Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude, with the ability to respond effectively to challenges, implement strategies, and adapt support methods to meet the changing needs of students. Organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, assist with administrative duties, and contribute to the effective functioning of the SEN department and wider school community.
