Job Title:
Snr Field Service Engineer
Purpose of the Role:
To deliver installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution assets for industrial and utility clients across the UK and internationally.
Location:
UK & Ireland (travel required, occasional overseas projects)
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out installation and start-up of switchgear, transformers, and control systems up to 33 kV.
* Perform commissioning, inspection, and diagnostic testing of electrical networks and protection schemes.
* Complete equipment upgrades, retrofits, and wiring modifications in line with project requirements.
* Deliver both preventive and corrective maintenance, including partial-discharge assessment, oil sampling, and thermal imaging.
* Lead or support on-site teams, including subcontractors, ensuring safe and efficient work execution.
* Prepare risk assessments, method statements, and technical documentation to company and client standards.
* Produce detailed test records, progress updates, and final site reports following completion of works.
* Provide technical input for service quotations and client proposals.
* Participate in an on-call rotation to support customers with urgent field issues.
* Represent the company professionally, identifying new service opportunities and supporting client relationships.
Experience & Background
* Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in the commissioning, maintenance, or repair of HV/LV electrical systems.
* Demonstrated competence with protection relays, control circuits, and switchgear testing.
* Experience working both independently and as part of a site-based engineering team.
Skills & Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence and valid passport.
* HNC/HND or degree in Electrical / Power Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
* Sound understanding of electrical safety practices and HV network isolation procedures.
* Competent user of test instruments such as secondary injection sets (Sverker, T&R, Omicron, etc.).
Technical Expertise
* Testing and commissioning of 33 kV–415 V systems.
* Current transformer (CT) and voltage transformer (VT) primary and secondary testing.
* Relay testing and configuration for over-current, earth-fault, and voltage protection.
* Verification of control wiring against schematics and fault-finding of circuits.
* Knowledge of G59/G99 protection principles and power-system compliance standards.
* Familiarity with auto-changeover schemes, transformer protection, and HV safety protocols.
