Medical Support Officer


Uppingham Community College

Salary: Rutland NJC Grade 5 Pay Point 12-17 (£25,193 - £27,329 per annum, approximate starting salary of £25,193)

Hours: Term-time, plus 2 weeks (working 40 weeks per year)

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm


About the Role

Uppingham Community College are looking for a caring, experienced and enthusiastic Medical Support Officer to join our team and be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide primary medical care and first aid to students and staff during school hours.
* Support pupils’ wellbeing by identifying health needs, managing medical conditions, and advising on appropriate care plans and reasonable adjustments.
* Work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers and external health services to promote a safe, healthy school environment and ensure compliance with health and safeguarding requirements.


What We’re Looking For

* Basic medical knowledge, ideally with medical experience in a school or community setting.
* Up to date first aid skills desirable; training can be provided.
* Experience supporting young people with acute illnesses, injuries and long‑term medical conditions.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and child protection requirements desirable; full training will be given.
* Ability to build trust and rapport with secondary‑age students in a supportive and professional manner.
* Excellent communication skills with students, staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
* Confidence in maintaining accurate medical records and managing medication safely.
* Organised, calm and professional, with the ability to manage a busy medical room independently.
* Decision‑making skills to respond effectively to emergencies and changing priorities in a school environment.


Qualifications

* 4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
* Full, clean driving licence
* First aid at work qualification


Experience

* First aid experience
* Experience working with young people
* Good working knowledge of ICT

* Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
* Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
