We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Band 6 Generalist Adult Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).
As a Generalist SLT, you will provide compassionate clinical care to adults living with communication and/or swallowing differences across various pathways, including: stroke, non-stroke, community, voice, and head/neck cancer. You should have existing competencies and experience in eating, drinking, and swallowing at least at Foundation Level (RCSLT, 2025) or Level C (2014).
You will be part of a team currently reviewing our service delivery models, which involve integrating telehealth/clinic approaches and streamlining pathways to ensure safe and sustainable care across Morecambe Bay. Our service is supported by a Clinical and Professional Lead and is embedded within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System, enabling participation in regional service and workforce initiatives.
While UHMBT operates from three main hospital sites—Lancaster, Barrow-in-Furness, and Kendal—the geographical area covered extends from North Lancashire to South Cumbria. Therefore, the ability to travel independently between sites is essential. The work base location will be discussed and agreed upon with the successful candidate. There is an expectation to progress to 6-day working for the stroke pathway once fully established.
If you are a motivated, flexible, and forward-thinking SLT interested in practicing across a range of clinical pathways, we would love to hear from you.
Note: As part of the service review, all SLT job descriptions will be reviewed, and the attached descriptions and person specifications are subject to change.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals and several community health care premises across Morecambe Bay, including:
* Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow
* The Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI)
* Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal
* Additional community facilities including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre
FGH and RLI offer full emergency and specialist services, while WGH provides general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for minor conditions. All sites support outpatient, diagnostic, therapy, day case, and inpatient services, along with outreach services across the region.
We promote flexible working to support work-life balance and are committed to equal opportunities and inclusivity. Our policies include a No Smoking Policy.
Applicants must demonstrate how they meet the Person Specification to be shortlisted. We reserve the right to close the advert early if sufficient applications are received. Please note, we do not cover interview expenses unless specified.
For roles Band 6 and above, and Medical & Dental posts, a DBS check is required, with associated charges (£49.50 for Enhanced, £21.50 for Standard, plus £4.90 admin fee). Newly appointed staff will undergo a 6-month probationary period.
We have introduced Pre-Onboarding, an online system to support your transition, providing essential information about your new role. Access it here: https://www.uhmb.nhs.uk/uhmbt-pre-onboarding.
