Job Description
As a grinder, you will be working in a working shipyard and will be responsible for a variety of preparation and refit/repair activities. This will include onboard refit (rip out and refit), maintenance requirements and H&S aspects.
* Operate grinding tools such as angle grinders, belt sanders, and disc sanders to remove excess material, smooth welds, and shape metal components.
* Prepare surfaces for welding, painting, or coating by grinding, sanding, and cleaning as necessary.
* Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accuracy in grinding operations.
* Inspect workpieces for defects, imperfections, or irregularities, and make adjustments as needed to meet quality standards.
* Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other tradespeople to coordinate workflow and ensure project deadlines are met.
* Maintain grinding equipment by performing routine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication, and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
* Adhere to safety procedures and regulations at all times to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
Qualifications
* Time served grinder either in a shipyard or similar industry
* Knowledge and compliance of workplace safety
* Understand of engineering drawings and technical documents
* Ability to establish an appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish the work
