Job Overview
Associate Ecologist – UK & Ireland (Manchester, Leeds, Basingstoke, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cambridge, Nottingham, Liverpool). Supports large infrastructure projects across energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, alongside local projects, and contributes to national and international initiatives within AECOM’s Nature business.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for internal and external clients.
* Produce and technically review ecological assessments, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations.
* Provide technical leadership to support proportionate and pragmatic solutions.
* Lead consultation and engagement with clients, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders.
* Drive the continuous development of technical capabilities and innovation within the team.
* Lead the production of bids and tenders for ecological services.
* Mentor and support junior staff and peers.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience in planning and delivery of ecological services in the UK or Ireland.
* Well-developed understanding of wildlife conservation.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution and evidence of working toward chartership (e.g., CIEEM).
* Excellent field skills in at least one specialist area, including protected species licences.
* Proactive approach to health and safety.
* Experience mentoring and supporting ecology team members.
