Preston Lodge High School is a non-denominational secondary school serving the communities of Cockenzie, Port Seton, Longniddry, Blindwells and Prestonpans. Our roll is currently, and the school is very easily commutable from Edinburgh. The strengths of our school are:
1. The high morale, sense of belonging and positive ethos of the school community
2. The nurturing, inclusive work of staff across the school in supporting young people’s learning and wellbeing
3. The strong, positive relationships between staff and students
Our motivated staff, students, parents, carers, and community have worked hard to further improve all aspects of our school, and staff love working at Preston Lodge. Following a recent inspection we are now working hard to address a number of improvement areas, and we are making great progress. We are a happy school, and new staff report very positively on our school’s culture and ethos. At a time of great uncertainty in education, we work together to provide the best education possible for all of our students.
Our work is focused on continuously improving our approach to classroom practice, developing student and staff learning, improving our curriculum offer and improving attainment, with a keen focus on our equity gap.
PE/Health & Wellbeing are a happy team, well led by a strong Principal Teacher, and we offer a wide variety of positive learning experiences to our students. Good relationships and focused lessons have led to high demand for PE courses, and two of our PE team lead our school-wide Youth Achievement Award programme. We offer a broad range of individual and team sports, and our strong Active Schools team also lead our Student Sports Ambassador programme. This session we are reintroducing a Sports Awards Evening for the first time since covid.
Our School of Rugby has very close links with Preston Lodge Rugby Football Club, and both our boys' and girls' teams are thriving. The current post holder is the PE team's rugby lead, and we would anticipate the successful candidate taking on this work, supported by an SRU/PLRFC funded Rugby Development Officer.
These are exciting times for PE, Preston Lodge, and the community we serve. We know the successful candidate will enjoy working here and you can find more about us at There is a wealth of information about the school and its culture in the Publications section - do take a look at our weekly PLus newsletter to find out more about who we are!
Applications will be accepted from those wishing to be considered for this role on a part-time basis. If you are applying for this role on a part time basis, please tell us in the Additional Information section of the application form.
