Newhill Primary School, Blairgowrie Community Campus, Elm Drive, Blairgowrie
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Pupil Support Assistant who is competent in using British Sign Language to work in Perth and Kinross.
You will use your skills in signing to ensure that all teaching is accessible to the child or young person.
You will hold British Sign Language qualification (Level 3, SCQF 6), as this role will require you to support communication between the child and both the adults and other children or young people in school. You will work under the direction of class teachers and multi-agency partners in providing any specific learning support required.
You will benefit from support and ongoing training as part of the Sensory Services Team (Hearing and Vision) in addition to being part of a successful school team.
Skills & Experience Required
It is essential that you are familiar with British Sign Language and can support a child or young person to understand what is being said.
You will hold at least a Level 3 BSL qualification (SCQF 6) (or equivalent) and have experience of supporting communication for children and young people who are deaf.
You will be willing to continue to advance your BSL skills and knowledge. There will be support to the successful post holder to continue their professional learning and development.
You must be confident in using British Sign Language and be able to use this within a Sign Supported English approach.
You should have experience of supporting children with additional support needs, including supporting deaf children or young people.
You will support children's learning across both primary and secondary ages, therefore you must have good literacy and numeracy skills.
With an understanding of school settings, you will be able to follow direction but should be willing to contribute creative ideas to support the delivery of learning to individual children. You will be sensitive to the needs of both children and the adults you are supporting, while respecting the confidentiality of pupils and staff.
