ST Equipment & Technology LLC (STET), headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is a developer and supplier of specialized processing equipment for the beneficiation of fine particle materials. Founded in 1989, STET developed a triboelectrostatic belt separator and has a successful commercial track record across multiple industries. STET has deployed separators worldwide, with extensive operation in North America, Europe, and Asia. A state-of-the-art Engineering Center in Needham, MA conducts research and development and pilot testing of new materials and continued development of the technology.
Role
As STET expands into the human food and animal feed industry, we are seeking a Technical Sales Director to drive growth, expand market presence, and generate new business in this sector. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the food and feed industry, a proven track record in business development and sales, and the ability to establish strong relationships with key industry stakeholders. This role requires a technically adept candidate and a strategic thinker with a passion for driving growth and achieving success.
A preference will be given to candidates with start-up experience or a strong entrepreneurial mindset, as we seek an individual who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and help scale our business during a period of growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Growth: Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to drive revenue growth in the food and feed sectors, focusing on new customer acquisition, key partnerships, and market penetration.
* Market Research: Conduct thorough market analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and new business opportunities. Stay informed of industry developments and competitor activities.
* Client Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, industry leaders, suppliers, and stakeholders to expand business opportunities and enhance customer loyalty.
* Sales Leadership: Lead the business development team in executing sales strategies and achieving sales targets. Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to align efforts and optimize the sales pipeline.
* Product Positioning: Work closely with the product development and marketing teams to ensure STET’s products and solutions are positioned effectively in the market, highlighting unique value propositions and competitive advantages.
* Contract Negotiation: Oversee the negotiation of high-value contracts, including pricing, terms, and delivery schedules, to ensure favorable agreements for the company.
* Partnerships & Alliances: Identify and establish strategic partnerships and alliances with other companies, suppliers, and distributors in the food and feed industry to strengthen the company’s position in the market.
* Industry Engagement: Represent STET at industry conferences, trade shows, and client meetings. Act as an ambassador for the company’s brand and technology solutions.
* Performance Metrics: Track and report on business development activities and performance against targets. Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, engineering, operations, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of projects and alignment on customer needs and expectations.
Required Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Food Science, or a related field. An MBA is a plus.
* Experience: Minimum of 10 years in business development, sales, or strategic planning, with at least 5 years in the food and feed industries. Experience with separation technologies or process engineering is highly desirable.
* Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of food and feed manufacturing processes, supply chain dynamics, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in sustainability.
* Sales Expertise: Proven ability to develop and execute successful business development strategies, close large deals, and drive significant revenue growth.
* Leadership Skills: Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and motivating a team. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
* Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capability to interpret complex data and market dynamics.
* Global Perspective: Ability to work in international markets and understand the nuances of doing business globally, especially in key regions for the food and feed industries.
Preferred Qualifications
* Start-up Experience: Previous experience in a startup or high-growth environment, where the individual was directly involved in scaling operations, creating new markets, or navigating the challenges associated with business expansion. An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity are highly valued.
* Technical Background: Experience in engineering, process optimization, or technical sales in the food or feed industry.
* Language Skills: Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus, particularly in key international markets.
