Offer description

Who we are…

Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors.

We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality and the backing of a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands and we are currently building a battery manufacturing facility in Somerset and looking to compliment, scale and grow our R&D facilities in Abingdon and Coventry with the brightest minds from within the battery and EV sector.

Our battery technology roadmap is based on a foundation of world-class solutions for multiple applications. Collaborating with our technical partners, we are industrialising best-in-class high energy density and long-lasting battery cells. We are also committed to developing the next generation of battery technologies.

Can you help pioneer innovative battery solutions of the future?

We are recruiting for a Senior Systems Test Engineer. This is a crucial role in ensuring the verification and validation (V&V) of EV battery packs, Battery Energy Management Systems (BEMs), and Battery Management Systems (BMS). This requires a deep understanding of test methodologies, validation processes, and compliance requirements for automotive and electrification industries.

The role requires a high level of analytical and critical thinking, with responsibilities ranging from defining test strategies to interpreting complex test data for failure analysis and risk mitigation. You may be required to lead test activities within the scope of a defined project, including coordination of resources, planning of timelines, and delivery of test milestones. You will have a direct impact on the company’s ability to deliver safe, reliable, and high-performance battery systems to customers

This is a hybrid working role that will be based in our Coventry office. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of sustainable energy solutions in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Your responsibilities include:

* Develop and own comprehensive Design Verification/Validation Plan and Reports (DVVPRs) to ensure alignment with product requirements, business objectives, and regulatory standards.
* Oversee the execution of all test campaigns, ensuring rigorous adherence to the test plans, requirements, and protocols
* Validate and document all test results, ensuring traceability to system-level requirements, performance metrics and stakeholder expectations.
* Ensure all test activities align with ASPICE process maturity models and relevant industry standards (e.g., UN ECE R100, UN 38.3, ISO 12405, etc.).
* Support regulatory compliance by generating test evidence for type approvals, homologation, and functional safety assessments where applicable.
* Contribute to the strategic development of the Test Engineering function, including workforce planning, capability roadmapping, and capital investment proposals.
* Work closely with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Software teams to ensure effective integration of test requirements and feedback loops.
* Define and maintain test equipment requirements to ensure that all test infrastructure supports evolving product needs.
* Collaborate with internal and external partners to manage the procurement, commissioning, and upkeep of testing facilities.
* Implement and promote automated testing solutions where applicable to optimise repeatability and test coverage
* Regularly communicate test results, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
* Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for test failures, and identify areas for design or process improvements.
* Analyse test data to identify trends in failure modes and collaborate with teams to mitigate risks early in the development process.

Qualifications & Experience:

* Extensive experience in test engineering, systems validation, or verification roles – or equivalent demonstrated capability in high-voltage automotive or battery systems.
* Degree (BEng, MEng, MSc) in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field).
* High Voltage (HV) Safety Training & Certification (e.g., HV Awareness, HV Working, or equivalent) – or willingness to obtain.
* Proven experience in test engineering, validation, or verification roles, particularly in automotive, EV battery systems, or powertrain domains.
* Competency in verification and validation (V&V) of EV battery packs, Battery Energy Management Systems (BEMs), Battery Management Systems (BMS), or high-voltage powertrain systems.
* Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and thermal testing methodologies for HV battery systems.
* Hands-on experience with test planning, execution, and data analysis in a relevant engineering environment.
* Knowledge of environmental, abuse, performance, and durability testing for EV battery systems.
* Experience with developing and executing Design Verification/Validation Plan and Reports (DVVPRs), ensuring test traceability to product requirements.
* Familiarity with ASPICE, ISO 12405, ISO 6469, and other battery testing regulations and guidance documents.
* Proficiency in failure analysis techniques, including root cause analysis and corrective action development
* Experience specifying, commissioning, and maintaining test rigs, environmental chambers, and battery test equipment.
* Ability to define and document test equipment and facility requirements to support validation activities.
* Prior experience with global vehicle programmes and associated compliance frameworks (e.g., UNECE, FMVSS, AIS standards).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
* Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills; able to influence, mentor, and lead by example within multi-disciplinary teams.
