Job Description
The role suits an experienced and technically proficient fire engineering professional who seeks unique experiences and challenges. You will need to be flexible, respond positively to change and be prepared for continuous learning and professional development throughout your time in this role. Regulations governing some fire safety aspects of buildings are evolving, and you must keep up to date to maintain expected competence levels.
Your role will involve
* Immersing yourself in a diverse range of subjects and risks covering the full lifecycle of our £14 million assets. From understanding and ownership to conducting strategic asset plans, your insights will drive maintenance improvements and capital investments aligned with Heathrow’s aspirations and values.
* Setting and meeting rigorous safety and technical objectives. Adhering to regulations and industry best practices to mitigate threats to life and enhance asset performance, for example ensuring compliance with the Fire Safety Order 2005.
* Understanding and fulfilling legal obligations related to asset care, maintaining active systems in an ever‑changing environment.
* Leading, developing and mentoring a team of engineers, professional consultants and supply chain partners, guiding clear outcomes and elevating collective performance.
* Representing Fire teams and promoting life safety and continuous improvement at stakeholder meetings, including interactions with Accountable or Responsible Persons, Building Control, CAA, LFB and the Airport Fire Service.
These Skills Are Essential
* Hold an undergraduate/postgraduate degree in Fire Engineering or possess significant relevant fire engineering expertise.
* Experience in CFD, Fire Strategies, Design Standards (BS9999, BS 7974, BS5839 and BS 12845 etc), ASET/RSET analysis, QDR.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders across the organisation. Break down complex concepts into actionable information.
* Strong working knowledge and experience in asset management and maintenance practices, methodologies, and strategies.
* Fire engineering design and analysis expertise.
Desirable
* Familiarity with preparing technical standards, specifications or other publications.
* Membership to IFE (MIFireE) or similar, or the capability of working towards this.

Working Location
Our hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing flexibility to work in an agile way while meeting operational needs. Working arrangements vary by team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You must be based in the UK and commute to Heathrow within a reasonable distance.
