We have an exciting new opportunity for an Energy Engineering Director to lead our in-house design and engineering team. The team comprises a combination of highly skilled engineers and construction professionals, with a proven track record for success, secure order book and extensive pipeline. The Energy Engineering Director will oversee the teams current operations, whilst also taking a lead role in its future growth working with customers to help tailor solutions to help deliver resilient, low carbon power.
Our Carbon Shift consulting business is focussed on the delivery of realisable climate action and net zero plans and is supported by delivery capability in heat decarbonisation, regeneration, Facilities Management, Project delivery, EVs, smart buildings and renewables. Carbon Shift has developed a strong expertise and client base around net zero and energy transition and is now moving expand this offer into offering solutions to the broader climate adaptation and resilience challenge.
Key activities
The Energy Engineering Director will coordinate with adjoining business functions and shared services to facilitate the progression of projects. The team plays a critical role between strategic consulting (nominally RIBA 0 to 2) and construction (nominally RIBA 5 to 6), whilst also providing support to operational projects. Close interfaces are held with procurement, commercial and legal teams, as well as a supply-chain of specialists alongside a deep understanding of customer requirements.
As the head of the team, the Engineering Director is a high profile representative for the Carbon Shift business and will be expected to regularly chair meetings, deliver presentations and speak confidently in various public forums.
1. Provide overall leadership to the team, maintaining a strong comradery, motivation, loyalty and productivity amongst colleagues and peers.
2. Strong technical mentoring of the team and a centre of excellence culture.
3. Represent the business in a leadership capacity to external stakeholders, including clients, suppliers and industry trade bodies.
4. Managing team resources and budgets across multiple design projects to ensure achievement of time, cost and quality outcomes.
5. Oversee the utilisation of a growing supply-chain of external specialist consultants
6. Provide technical expertise and sound engineering logic, spanning a diverse range of project environments and technology areas.
7. Oversee and lead design and development processes from RIBA 2 to 4C.
8. Provide technical support from RIBA 5 7 and support the progression of projects to construction in an advisory capacity
9. Ensure compliance with contracts, legislation, regulations, standards and codes.
10. Oversee the continuous improvement of the business function, including the evolution of the design management system, implementation of new technologies and techniques.
11. Coordinate interfaces with adjoining business functions, including sales, construction and operational teams, SHEQ, procurement, commercial and legal departments.
12. Offer strategic direction in the growth of the business, communicating new and emerging technologies, markets and pipelines and aiding in the business transition to exploit opportunities.
Skills, qualifications & experience
13. Degree (Bachelors or Masters) in relevant engineering discipline, accredited by Engineering Council
14. Membership to applicable engineering institution; CIBSE, IMechE, IET
15. Mechanical and electrical design building services and infrastructure
16. Statutory consenting processes planning, building control, highways, environmental etc.
17. Applicable regulations, legislation, design codes and standards (CIBSE, BSRIA, IMechE, IEEE, RIBA etc.)
18. Core design software AutoCAD, REVIT, IES VE etc.
19. Measurement & Verification processes
20. Design & project management of complex multi-disciplinary projects
