Systemic Psychotherapist – Full Time


Responsibilities

* Provide a high quality, evidence‑based systemic psychotherapy service to children, their families, carers and professional networks, in keeping with CYP‑IAPT principles.
* Deliver specialist systemic assessment and therapy to families and adolescents referred to CAMHS.
* Offer specialist advice and consultation on diagnoses and treatment to CAMHS colleagues, external agencies, and within a multi‑disciplinary team, working autonomously within professional guidelines.
* Contribute to the development, implementation, and audit of services for families presenting to the Service.
* Conduct specialist systemic assessments of significant and complex referrals to formulate and implement treatment plans based on appropriate conceptual frameworks and evidence‑based methods, employing routine outcome measures.
* Assess children, adolescents, and families as part of a risk assessment.
* Consult to parents/carers (including foster parents) as part of a treatment plan.
* Work sensitively and appropriately with families from diverse racial, cultural and religious backgrounds, including single parents, same‑sex couples, and families with accommodation complex needs.
* Provide specialist systemic psychotherapy with clinical autonomy, drawing on a range of models and, where possible, brief interventions.
* Make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options, taking into account complex historical and developmental factors.
* Implement a range of systemic psychotherapeutic interventions (family therapy, individual work, chairing professional and network meetings, liaison with agencies, observations, and use of systemic models).
Maintain provisional hypotheses to reach a formulation and treatment plan.
* Exercise full autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients, and formulate effective care plans in collaboration with the client and family.
* Undertake risk assessment and risk management relevant to individual patients, including protective and risk factors within the network of significant relationships.
* Work jointly and collaboratively with other team members to enhance and develop work with families by providing specialist knowledge and skills.
* Provide specialist consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals at all levels working with families within the service and partner agencies, including issues such as child protection, self‑harm, violence, trauma, suicide risk, criminal offending, sexualised behaviour and parental mental health problems.
* Maintain current knowledge of video equipment and promote its ethical and effective use in line with Directorate policy; introduce this practice to families sensitively and advise clinicians and trainees on the appropriate use of this therapeutic tool.
* Act as care coordinator, initiating, planning and reviewing care plans, and organising complex professional network meetings.
* Work in accordance with CAMHS and team objectives, adhering to Trust and Directorate policies, ensuring care plans are in place, recording up to date, and contributing a systemic view in case discussion and team meetings.
* Be an active member of the Family Therapy Clinic.
* Contribute to overall service delivery and development as required.
* Attend monthly professional and team meetings.
* Supervise Band 7 systemic psychotherapists and systemic psychotherapy trainees, providing live supervision in family therapy clinics and retrospective supervision on an individual basis.


Management Responsibilities

* Contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team’s operational policies and services, through the development of systemic professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
* Advise both service and professional management on all aspects of the service where systemic and/or organisational matters need addressing.
* Manage the workloads of supervisees within a framework of team policies and procedures, and oversee clinical standards.
* Lead on an agreed area of service development.
