Requirements
Must be a qualified lawyer in corporate, structured finance, or transactional finance.
The Talent Development Manager will support the Global Corporate practice in London and, following a period of integration, an additional practice group. This role is critical in delivering timely and effective support that enhances the professional and personal development of lawyers within the practice and across the wider firm. Embedded within the Global Corporate team, the role works closely with partners, associates, trainees, and the broader Talent Development teams in London and the US.
Key Responsibilities
* Build a comprehensive understanding of the practice group’s work, people, clients, and deal flow.
* Develop in‑depth knowledge of associates, counsel, and trainees, including strengths, specialist skills, and development goals.
* Coordinate allocation of work for associates, counsel, and trainees, ensuring optimal utilisation and alignment with development needs.
* Support partners with annual leave and study leave planning to maintain effective resourcing.
* Review workloads and financial analytics to ensure appropriate team weighting and utilisation.
* Oversee completion of annual and interim performance reviews and ensure feedback is delivered consistently.
* Identify and communicate development and training needs in partnership with practice group leadership.
* Conduct interim development conversations and ensure accurate documentation where required.
* Provide career guidance and coaching to associates and trainees.
* Work with Training Partners, PSLs, and Professional Development colleagues to design training programmes and ad‑hoc learning initiatives.
* Engage external training providers to deliver bespoke development offerings.
* Develop tailored induction plans for new joiners and support trainee seat rotations.
* Help facilitate team-building initiatives and events that enhance cohesion and collaboration.
* Collaborate with the Recruitment Manager and partners on lateral and trainee hiring.
* Work with HR to support overseas‑qualified lawyers completing SQE and requirements for England & Wales admission.
* Partner with HR on wellbeing and absence management, ensuring appropriate support and resourcing.
* Manage exit procedures for departing associates and conduct exit interviews.
* Support inclusion initiatives and contribute to office and firm‑wide talent development meetings.
* Participate in ad‑hoc project work, including benchmarking, research, and change initiatives.
About You
* Minimum five years’ experience as a practising lawyer, ideally within Corporate or a related transactional practice.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to influence at all levels and build productive relationships.
* Comfortable with change and enthusiastic about innovation and problem‑solving.
* Collaborative team player committed to delivering high‑quality service.
