A vacancy has arisen for a Mechanical Fitter to join our team within our Severn Trent Engineering contract in Derbyshire / Mansfield / Nottingham areas.
The Mechanical Fitter role exists to work either alone or as part of a team including alongside electrical craftsmen to provide service support including both planned and reactive maintenance, as well as new plant installations and upgrades to the framework contracts as instructed by the framework manager. Being mechanically qualified with wider skills, the role will also form part of the wider engineering team when needed.
The role briefly encompasses the following duties:
1. Work to/ Comply with HIS/STW SHEQ procedures
2. Carry out PPM as per site schedules
3. Carry out RCM as per site schedules
4. Carry out planned defect repairs on all Mechanical equipment within the HIS Service delivery scope
5. Apply and remove mechanical isolations and comply with PTW systems
6. Carry out fault finding activities
7. Identify engineered and process control improvement opportunities
8. Work with drawings, install, and commission new equipment
9. Attend, diagnose, and agree repair processes for plant breakdowns
10. Operate workshop equipment and tools
11. Complete all necessary documents, reports, and records
12. Provide professional support to the Client and Engineering team
13. Identify and implement continuous improvements and innovations
14. Ensure work is completed to a high standard
15. Communicate with Clients and Framework Manager on progress or issues
16. Promote a proactive safety culture to drive for zero harm
17. Assist in delivering works on time
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/experience/attributes:
1. Served Apprenticeship/Equivalent with a minimum of 2 years' experience working on mechanical equipment, plant, and installations
2. Understanding of applicable regulations and legislations
3. Understanding of engineering best practices
4. Experience in fault diagnostics & repair solutions
5. Ability to undertake and pass level 3 confined space training
6. Ability to see work through to completion
7. Strong communication skills at all levels
8. Willingness to undertake site inductions and safety training
9. Rigging, slinging, and FLT driving skills and qualifications (preferable)
10. Hold a UK Driving Licence including C1 category (3500kg – 7500kg)
11. Positive attitude to safety
12. Strong team player
13. Innovative and flexible approach to work
14. Tolerant of diverse personalities
15. Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines
16. Adherence to safety procedures and instructions
