Are you an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist who is interested in enhancing their clinical expertise in the areas of haematology and oncology? Come and join our progressive pharmacy team!

An opportunity exists for a new member of staff to join a pro-active, well respected and forward thinking Pharmacy Team delivering a high quality service to our patients across the two sites.

You will have experience in hospital pharmacy and preferably have undertaken a clinical diploma.

Main duties of the job

1. Work with medical, nursing and pharmacy staff to ensure the safe provision of systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) to patients with cancer
2. Practice as part of the pharmacy team to contribute to the development of high quality and consistent pharmaceutical services
3. Minimise risk from medication harm and minimise wastage.
4. Provide pharmaceutical services to inpatients (including taking drug histories and writing and processing discharge prescriptions)
5. Provide support for clinical trials in oncology patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include but not be limited to:

6. Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals,
members of the pharmacy team and patients regarding the
provision of medicines. This will include where necessary the
legislation and safety of medicinal products, reporting of
clinical incidents.
7. Provide advice to medical, nursing and other health care
professionals on the actions and uses of drugs and their safe
and effective use. This will include patients with complex
pharmaceutical needs.
8. Provide advice to patients and carers to enhance their
understanding of their medicines and promote adherence.
9. Undertake the line management duties to support the
development of more junior pharmacists. Appraising staff as
per Trust policy which will involve identifying training and
development needs.
10. Take responsibility for personal Continuing Professional
Development in line with department and professional
guidance. This includes undertaking all mandatory training
required for the role.
11. Participate in continuous professional development within the
Pharmacy Department, involving presentation and
participation in departmental teaching sessions.
12. Help deliver the pre-registration and junior pharmacist clinical
pharmacy training programme.
13. Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation clinical
pharmacy services for patients admitted to own area of
responsibility, and identify how these services can be
improved. Develop guidelines for use in Pharmacy and the
speciality to support this.
14. Support the implementation of local and national
medicines-related guidance, including National Institute for
Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines and National
Service Frameworks, within the speciality to ensure
evidence-based medicine is practised.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

15. MPharm or equivalent
16. Registration with the GPhC

Desirable criteria

17. Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership
18. Post graduate Clinical Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria

19. Fulfilment of mandatory continuous professional development requirements
20. Recent relevant hospital pharmacy experience
21. Computer systems
22. Broad clinical pharmacy knowledge

Desirable criteria

23. Previous hospital experience
24. Evidence of service development experience
