Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit an Environmental Health Officer for an initial 3-month temporary contract. Please note that this role requires 2 days a week presence on site.

The Opportunity:
Maldon District Council is seeking to employ a qualified and experienced individual who can demonstrate their knowledge within the Private Sector Housing area and be able to deal with complaints and HMOs. If you have experience of dealing with Statutory Nuisance issues that would be a bonus.
This role will focus on primarily complaints-driven work and appropriate enforcement, including serving of notices as necessary.
The purpose of the role is to deliver a specialist, professional service with high standards of advice and support, resolving cases of varying complexity as they arise. You must ensure compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, professional codes of practice and adherence to Council policy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Investigate complaints and requests for service in the area and function
2. Ensure that all matters of Environmental significance are recorded and pursue action to secure Environmental Health compliance
3. Support, contribute and comply with quality practices as described within the Corporate Policy and as directed by departmental and team plans/management
4. Attend and advise Area Committees, if required, to present reports on any functions for which you are responsible
5. Ensure that the Council and Directorate safety policies are observed
6. Apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery
7. To apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Safeguarding Procedure in all areas of employment and service delivery
The Experience you will bring:
8. Holds a Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent (. Diploma in Environmental Health) (desirable)
9. Registered with Environmental Health Registration Board (desirable)
10. Experience of securing regulatory compliance though various means
11. Statutory nuisance investigation experience
12. Planning and Licensing consultation response experience
