About the role
To support the practice nursing team in delivering nursing services as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing care within the scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will assist clinical staff in providing treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Core Responsibilities
* Undertake new patient health checks, baseline observations (pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate), and BMI checks.
* Perform venepuncture and administer vaccinations (flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia, B12).
* Carry out ECGs, wound care, dressings and minor procedures as required.
* Facilitate routine and 24‑hour blood pressure monitoring, advise patients.
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes and chronic disease clinic management.
* Ensure laboratory specimens are recorded and ready for onward transport.
* Maintain clinical rooms, fridges, and clinical waste in compliance with IPC and MRCGP guidance.
* Provide support during minor operations.
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion and act as a chaperone when required.
* Participate in audit, local initiatives, and shared learning within the practice.

Experience & Qualifications
* Healthcare qualification or equivalent level.
* GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
* Qualified in Immunisation – flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia, B12.
* At least 6 months relevant experience in a primary care setting within the last 2 years.
* Experience of working with the general public and in a healthcare setting.
* Practical skills: venepuncture, ECG, wound care, dressings, removal of sutures and staples, treatment of small injuries, new patient medicals, chaperone procedure, accurate clinical note recording.
Working Hours & Location
Monday – Wednesday 08:25 – 13:00, based at a village dispensing practice on the outskirts of Rugby and Coventry. Salary £13.17‑£13.90 per hour depending on experience.
