The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is Europe’s largest Oncology Centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton and soon to be Cavendish Square. The Diagnostic Imaging department provides an essential service to the Trust which includes CT, MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, PET, digital Interventional service and CR general X-ray, all of which are linked to the PACS and RIS system.
The individual will need to be flexible, focused and meticulous with a positive attitude to change, to assist the PACS and Radiology IT systems manager in steering the diagnostic imaging department through implementation of imaging IT systems to deliver the changes needed for the future developments in imaging.
Main duties of the job
This is a specialised post supporting all of the existing imaging IT systems within the Trust including the
Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and Vendor
Neutral Archive (VNA).
The post-holder will be responsible for the content, integrity, safe use and security of the imaging IT
systems in the clinical environment, working closely with the Trust’s IT provider and third party suppliers
to maintain effective service delivery.
The post holder will have a key role in supporting the PACS and Radiology IT Systems Manager in
projects to integrate new imaging equipment, perform system upgrades and implementation of new
imaging IT systems.
It is a challenging role for someone who can work under pressure. You will need polished verbal and written communication skills dealing with queries within and outside the trust.

They will be expected to support both the service and it’s staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Daily monitoring of RIS, PACS & VNA system performance and imaging system interfaces.
Perform imaging IT system application configuration such as addition of exams codes, set up and maintenance of RIS templates, creation and modification of PACS display protocols and worklists.
Support the planning and management of system upgrades, liaising with affected system users, advising users of business continuity procedures during periods of system unavailability.
Extract complex statistical information from the systems to meet routine and ad hoc information requirements.
Manage the integrity of data and studies on imaging IT systems to ensure timely availability of diagnostic imaging data and reports.
Provide training for all diagnostic imaging staff in use of the imaging IT systems in accordance with their job descriptions and service needs.
Deputise for the PACS & Radiology Systems Manager when necessary and act as the lead for the clerical team when required ensuring the team are supported in their role.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Educated to degree level
2. Registered Health Care Professional or significant experience supporting Healthcare or Radiology IT systems
Desirable criteria
3. Recognised IT qualification / certification
4. Project management and ITIL Foundation level qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience working with clinical IT systems
6. Comprehensive knowledge of imaging department workflows
7. Good understanding of principles of Information Governance
8. Basic computer and keyboard skills and competent in the basic use of MS office products
Desirable criteria
9. Previous experience of supporting and administering imaging IT systems
10. Knowledge of DICOM and HL7
11. Understanding of computer networks
12. Experience in training users in the use of imaging IT systems

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
