Graduate Civil Engineer role with Arcadis. The organisation offers a structured GROW programme designed to develop you into an experienced professional in your chosen field.
Application Closing Date: 28th November 2025. Arcadis reserves the right to close roles sooner; early application is encouraged.
Role description
The GROW graduate programme is a structured 3-year development path with training, mentoring, and assistance for accreditations relevant to the programme. You will be empowered to drive your career and will gain exposure to a variety of experiences to build the skills needed to succeed. You will have the opportunity to specialise within your chosen engineering discipline and obtain the experiences required to become a technical expert. Arcadis seeks to apply a human filter to technical expertise and aims to deliver impact through innovation and creativity. During the programme you will develop core engineering and consulting techniques for work with clients in the UK and potentially international clients.
Role accountabilities
Our civil engineering teams work across highways, rail, energy, and water to deliver safe, high-quality, and sustainable design solutions. As a graduate you will be supported and mentored while contributing to projects ranging from local schemes to major international developments. You will work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and follow a structured path towards professional qualification.
Using advanced software and digital tools, you will design new infrastructure and assess existing assets for repair or reuse. You will gain hands-on experience across sectors, learn about project delivery models, contracts, and commercial constraints, and collaborate with other disciplines. Site visits will help ensure designs are safe, buildable, and sustainable. Civil engineers contribute to tackling climate challenges by delivering resilient, low-carbon solutions with broad environmental, social, and economic impact.
Organisation work varies across sectors and scales.
* In highways and transportation: contribute to the design of roads, junctions, bridges, active travel routes, and related foundations, earthworks, drainage, and structures using tools such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and BIM; explore generative design and transport planning, traffic modelling, and policy alignment; engage with clients and stakeholders across UK and international projects.
* In water management: work on waste and clean water infrastructure to deliver sustainable solutions and ensure resilient water supplies.
* In rail: contribute to station infrastructure, bridges, utility crossings, drainage, and safety-critical rail environments, integrating designs that meet rail standards and HSE requirements with digital tools; gain experience from concept to construction on UK and international projects, including light rail and tram systems.
* In energy: support clients with new connections and grid upgrades to meet Net Zero ambitions.
No matter the sector, the programme offers opportunities to grow skills in delivering sustainable solutions, with some site visits and inspections.
