Senior Expert Lawyer (Regulatory & Public Law)

c.£70,000–£80,000 per annum (contractor)
A high-profile opportunity has opened for a Senior Expert Lawyer to join a specialist legal team working on the next generation of UK energy network price controls, an initiative underpinning around £100bn of investment in national infrastructure from 2026–2031.
You’ll play a key role in shaping complex regulatory frameworks and leading legal support in preparation for potential Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) appeals. This is a rare chance to contribute to nationally significant work supporting major infrastructure and decarbonisation ambitions.
What you’ll do
* Lead legal advice on the development of large-scale regulatory mechanisms.
* Support the organisation’s defence in any statutory appeals, including CMA processes.
* Work closely with policy specialists, external Counsel and law firms on evidence, drafting and litigation preparation.
* Advise on risks, regulatory interpretation, and the operation of current price control frameworks.
What you bring
* Extensive experience in public and/or regulatory law.
* Strong track record in judicial review, statutory appeals, or complex disputes.
* Ability to work at pace, analyse complexity and provide clear, strategic advice.
* Experience with CMA appeals or economic regulation is highly desirable.
