Job Summary
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, assist the ward/department team in providing a high standard of care for acute and chronic respiratory patients.
Responsibilities
* Support patients with personal hygiene and grooming.
* Assist with toileting, incontinence management, and upkeep of personal dignity.
* Record fluid intake/output and dietary intake; serve meals.
* Promote mobility and prevent pressure sores.
* Assist with movement, handling, venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, and wound dressing.
* Support high‑flow oxygen therapy, non‑invasive ventilation, and tracheostomy care.
* Perform routine observations: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, peak flow, oxygen saturation, glucose monitoring.
* Collect specimens, blood products and perform basic laboratory duties.
* Provide clerical support: reception, messaging, filing and stock management.
* Attend to visitors, safeguard patient property and manage incidents.
* Assist with NHS policies, reporting clinical incidents and handovers.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare.
* Minimum 18 months healthcare assistant experience.
Essential Experience and Skills
* Experience working at NVQ Level 2 in a hospital setting.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Basic computer proficiency.
* Ability to develop relationships with colleagues.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of high standard patient care and respiratory conditions.
Other Requirements
* Supportive of colleagues and patients.
