The Opportunity
As Financial Controller, you will take the lead on all core financial reporting and control activity. Acting as a key partner to senior leadership, you will ensure the business maintains robust governance while supporting strategic decision‑making. You will also guide and develop a capable finance team, helping shape the evolving finance function.
This role is ideal for someone who wants broad exposure, hands‑on responsibility, and the opportunity to step up - including deputising for the CFO when required.
The salary on offer is up to c£70,000 + benefits. Hybrid working is offered with x3 days PW in the office, and flexibility can be supported for those with commitments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the production of monthly accounts and deliver accurate reporting to tight deadlines
2. Manage statutory reporting, compliance submissions, tax packs, and audit processes
3. Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and governance frameworks
4. Identify risks and drive system and process improvements
5. Oversee key balance sheet reconciliations and working capital
6. Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles, including cashflow forecasting
7. Review and approve payments, purchase orders, and credit applications
8. Provide insightful financial analysis to support commercial and strategic decisions
9. Present financial updates to senior stakeholders
10. Lead, develop, and mentor a small finance team
11. Support the CFO with projects, initiatives, and ad‑hoc requests
About You
12. ACA/ACCA qualified (practice‑trained preferential, but not essential)
13. Strong technical accounting knowledge (FRS 102 essential; IFRS desirable)
14. Experience in audit, statutory reporting, and working to challenging deadlines
15. Strong analytical capability and exceptional attention to detail
16. Confident working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
17. Proactive, inquisitive, and motivated by continuous improvement
18. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
