Job Description
As a Sous Chef, you will assist in managing kitchen operations, maintaining high standards of food preparation and presentation, and ensuring a safe and hygienic workplace. You will support your Line Manager in developing kitchen talent, planning menus, and driving innovation in line with current culinary trends. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to delivering outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure compliance with health & safety, hygiene, and fire regulations at all times.
2. Manage kitchen team and oversee financial performance of catering areas.
3. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene
Produce food to the highest quality using current trends and techniques.
4. Plan, coordinate, and order food requirements in line with client numbers and budgets.
5. Ensure prompt service of meals and adherence to company standards.
6. Build strong relationships with team members and clients, promoting new initiatives.
7. Recruit, train, and develop kitchen staff to maintain consistent service standards.
8. Maintain accurate personnel records, including payroll and training documentation.
9. Communicate effectively through team briefings and meetings.
10. Secure all stores and areas of potential loss and manage cash and keys responsibly.
11. Assist with special functions and duties outside normal working hours when required.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
12. Level 3 Food Safety Award
13. City & Guilds 706/1 Catering or NVQ Level 1
14. Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace Award
15. Minimum 6 months relevant experience in a similar role
16. Awareness of manual handling techniques
17. Basic knowledge of all kitchen sections
18. Ability to produce good quality basic food and work unsupervised
19. Strong team management skills and high attention to detail
20. Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas
21. Positive and approachable manner
