Overview
Academic research is at the heart of The University of Sheffield’s core activities. In the Faculty of Arts & Humanities you will support researchers by managing routine research costings and applications, responding to queries, collaborating with other professional service teams, maintaining data in research information systems, and contributing to the smooth set‑up of successful grants.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Provide support for the submission of routine research applications, including costing, interpreting funder guidance, ensuring proposals meet university and funder policies, and guiding applicants through submission processes, approvals and systems.
* Collaborate closely with other professional services teams in Research, Partnerships Innovation and Faculty Finance to set up successful grants.
* Update and maintain accurate data across the various systems that support research activities at the University.
* Develop and maintain materials such as application guidance documents, the bid library and the Faculty’s grant applications pipeline.
* Generate routine reports from a variety of systems, for example tracking and monitoring research applications and awards for a School.
* Maintain the Faculty’s Research Intranet portal, including uploading and updating content.
* Provide administrative support for internal selection processes at faculty level, such as early career fellowship schemes.
* Maintain close links with Research, Partnerships and Innovation and Professional Service Teams in Schools to ensure local processes align with University requirements.
* Embed the University sustainability strategy into working activities wherever possible.
* Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential Criteria
* Educated to A level standard (or equivalent).
* Excellent numeracy and experience with finance or budgets; accurate data entry and reporting using various systems.
* Ability to exercise judgement within a framework of guidance and procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex information to a range of audiences.
* Team working and independent working skills, with the ability to form positive working relationships at all levels.
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, including prioritising workload and meeting tight deadlines.
* Excellent IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications.
* Ability to learn quickly and apply new information to different situations.
* Proactive approach and adaptability to changing work priorities.
* Previous experience in a higher‑education research support environment.
