Job overview

We are seeking experienced and motivated Pharmacy Technicians to join our Bank Staff Team within the Health Board. This flexible role offers the opportunity to work across various pharmacy service areas, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, and cost-effective Medicines Management.

As a Bank Pharmacy Technician, you will provide specialised pharmacy support to patients, pharmacy colleagues, healthcare professionals. You will be deployed as required across different settings, including dispensary, ward-based services, contributing to the smooth running of the department and ensuring continuity of care.


Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

* Support Pharmacy Services across dispensary, ward-based areas, ensuring safe and efficient handling of medicines.
* Dispensing and Supply of medicines in accordance with legal, professional, and organisational standards.
* Ward-Based Support to clinical teams, including medicines reconciliation, top-ups, and patient counselling where appropriate.
* Maintain Accurate Records and documentation in line with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements.
* Provide Technical Advice and Support to pharmacy colleagues, healthcare professionals, and patients.
* Ensure Compliance with Health Board policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.


Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

* Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
* Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
* Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
* 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
* Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Person specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice or NVQ 3 and BTEC or equivalent in pharmaceutical science
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* Educational supervisor training
* Clinical supervisor training
* PWDS Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Training Programme (PMOTP) – Unit 3 Clinical Prioritisation or equivalent.
* Introduction to Education and trainings.
* Level 4 Enhanced Clinical Diploma
* Diploma of higher education in advanced Pharmacy Technician practice
* Undertake the relevant training and attain the required competencies for the administration of medication to inpatients


Experience

* Extensive experience in community, primary or secondary care
* Extensive experience of training different staff grades
* Experience in supervision of staff
* Experience of clinical prioritisation of workload
* Experience of leading a service
* Experience of reading and interpreting blood results


Other

* Flexible approach to needs of the service to undertake weekend and late shift working
* Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
* Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
