Senior Therapy Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Therapy Assistant to jointhe therapy team at the Stroke Pathway Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC). SPARC is a 31 bedded unit that provides excellent, patient centred, evidence based, inpatient care and rehabilitation for stroke survivors admitted on the stroke pathway.
The successful post holder will work closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Activity Co-ordinators and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team, contributing to the day-to-day management and rehabilitation of stroke patients.
We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills.
Applicants should have previous NHS experience.
Main duties of the job
To assist the multidisciplinary team (primarily Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy) in the provision of individualised patient centred rehabilitation.
To carry a clinical caseload delegated by Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, plan and prioritise own work and report back to registered therapy staff.
Assess, treat, monitor, and progress each patient within protocols.
Measure activity and treatment outcomes.
To assist the multidisciplinary team in maintaining an efficient working environment.
Complete cognitive assessments following protocols.
Assess for and order equipment to facilitate safe discharge under the guidance of registered therapists.
Teach, guide and supervise patients as individuals or in groups.
Teach therapy techniques to carers including safe use of equipment, manual handling and management of the patient's condition.
Select treatment activities to fulfil therapy goals, taking into consideration the patient's condition and capability.
Complete assessment forms and write in patient treatment records in line with Trust and Therapy Services local guidelines.
Carry out clinical duties that contribute towards integrated patient care as part of therapeutic practice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Grade C /4 or equivalent in English and Maths or equivalent experience
* Technical qualifications to level 3 e.g. QCF3, BTEC, A Level in relevant health/healthcare subject OR Evidence of continuous development through formal and/or informal training in health/healthcare equivalent to Level 3
* Health & Safety
* First Aid
* City & Guilds 7307 (teaching) or equivalent
Further Training
* Experience of working with therapists as part of patient centred care
* Current knowledge & skills in therapy practice relevant to speciality
* Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
* Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
* Able to maintain confidentiality
* Ability to act on own initiative, organise work and manage multiple tasks
* Ability to maintain accurate written records & statistics
* IT Literate
* Calm approach to changing work situations
* Teaching ability
* Able to motivate patients
* Comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy and physiotherapy in line with the role
* Competency in therapy practice
Experience
* Relevant experience as an Occupational Therapy and/or Physiotherapy Assistant including successful completion of associated competencies Or Relevant experience as a Clinical Support Worker/Health Care Assistant in a rehabilitation environment including successful completion of associated competencies
* Working in elderly/ rehabilitation/ medicine/stroke/ neurology specialities.
