Mechanical Manager salary £43,000 - £47,000 + Company Vehicle (DOE). Permanent position in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire close to Aylesbury, Watford, Rickmansworth, High Wycombe, Luton and London.
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Manager on behalf of a respected building services company. This role offers the opportunity to lead an in-house engineering team and manage third-party contractors, ensuring the delivery of both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and emergency reactive maintenance across a varied portfolio.
The successful candidate will work alongside supportive colleagues to provide excellent customer service, deliver technical expertise, and ensure compliance with all legal and quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional looking to take on a leadership role within a progressive and customer-focused business.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage mechanical, plumbing, heating, HVAC & gas engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant maintenance of all building services.
* Develop a customer-focused engineering team through effective coaching and management.
* Prioritise workloads to meet operational needs and client expectations.
* Provide technical guidance to the team and contractors to maintain high standards.
* Ensure accurate recording and management of maintenance data for all assets.
* Work closely with the Director to optimise team and plant performance across all sites.
* Support engineering projects, ensuring completion on time, within budget and to specification.
* Prepare quotations for maintenance work.
* Deliver exceptional customer service, liaising with clients directly or through the office team.
Requirements
* Extensive experience in a similar role, with strong HVAC technical knowledge.
* Degree-qualified engineer / building professional or equivalent practical experience.
* Strong understanding of engineering practices within complex public and/or listed buildings.
* Ability to react quickly and reliably under pressure with a flexible and proactive approach.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen, negotiate, and influence.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
* Evidence of CPD is desirable.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently.
* Clean UK driving licence and DBS record.
