About Us
St Oscar Romero Catholic School and Sixth Form is a successful, over-subscribed school, enjoying a strong reputation within the local and Catholic communities. There are currently 1150 students on roll and we have waiting lists in all year groups. Last year, 80% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in both English and Maths. The Attainment 8 measure for the school was 55.1. Our challenge this year is to improve even further on that
In September 2024 the school opened their new Sixth Form, offering a traditional academic curriculum with some vocational qualifications. The Music curriculum includes 1 weekly class music lesson for all Key Stage 3 students, as well as an addition weekly lesson of choir in Year 7 and class cornet lesson in Year 8. Healthy Key Sage 4 GCSE Music cohorts and A Level Music ensures students have opportunities to pursue music at all levels. The student Chamber Choir is considered outstanding in the region. The recent selection of Romero's as a Lead School for Music demonstrates strong practice in music teaching and commitment to supporting others in helping to shape local strategy, strengthen peer learning, and ensure all children and young people in the area can access musical opportunities, both in and out of school.
The role of Subject Leader for Music is fundamental to the school's vision and future success. There is the possibility of teaching A-Level for the right candidate.
