Job Title: Design Lead – Main Plant

Reporting to the Plant Engineering Section Head, you will lead a team of professional design engineers developing and delivering engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above), including substations and associated equipment. Your responsibilities include providing engineering specifications and designs, supporting projects throughout their lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing
1. Leading and managing a team of design engineers.
2. Advising on pre-contract design and project delivery, focusing on switchgear, transformers, and related equipment.
3. Assessing engineering documents, feasibility, and compliance, and assisting in budget preparation.
4. Providing input on construction and outage programs related to plant engineering.
5. Overseeing and preparing engineering specifications for main plant and substations.
6. Evaluating tender submissions and reporting recommendations.
7. Defining equipment requirements for system construction.
8. Authorizing technical specifications and regulatory documentation.
9. Coordinating the review of substation drawings and specifications for procurement.
10. Ensuring designs comply with legislation, policies, and operational standards.
11. Delegating technical resolution of site issues.
12. Leading technical assessments of tenders and supporting project teams.
13. Leading training assessments and developing safety and operational packages.
14. Supporting development of standards and regulatory compliance.
15. Participating in meetings and deputizing for the Section Head as needed.
What you’ll bring
1. A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer preferred.
2. Proven leadership and management skills.
3. Strong influencing and stakeholder management abilities.
4. Experience in designing electrical infrastructure, specifically substations and plant engineering from 33kV to 400kV.
5. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
6. Knowledge of transmission network safety and compliance requirements.
7. Understanding of the market operations for electrical network owners/operators.
8. Experience with CDM regulations and safety standards.
