Job Description:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct patient care and participates actively in the therapeutic milieu.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the RN in providing direct patient care:
* Accurately document assessments, progress notes, and observations
* Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, respecting professional boundaries
* Participate in patient rounds and team meetings
* Complete assigned patient care tasks
* Identify behaviors that may lead to crises; employ de-escalation techniques
* Manage complex patient situations in accordance with policies, promoting least restrictive interventions
* Communicate patient status changes to RN
* Follow care standards and protocols
* Remain alert and attentive during shifts
* Perform Point of Care testing as required
All staff must have basic computer skills for communication and documentation. Completion of electronic medical records training and achieving 80% on competency tests within 30 days of hire are mandatory.
Therapeutic Milieu Participation:
* Plan and facilitate patient groups and activities
* Supervise recreational and off-unit activities
* Provide direction, support, and supervision to patients as needed
* Adhere to nursing policies, procedures, and safety protocols
* Conduct safety assessments during checks
Environmental Maintenance:
* Report issues related to cleanliness and equipment
* Participate in inventory management
* Encourage patient involvement in maintaining a safe environment
Activities of Daily Living Support:
* Assess and meet hygiene needs
* Support nutritional needs following protocols
* Assist during tests and procedures
* Supervise patient outings, ensuring safety
Professional Development:
* Complete mandatory training
* Identify areas for growth with supervisor
* Maintain competencies for specific age groups
* Seek feedback and participate in debriefings

Qualifications:
* High School diploma or GED required; two years of college and one year of clinical experience preferred
* Verbal and written communication skills
* Experience in direct patient care is preferred
