Detailed job description
and main responsibilities
1. To ensure that midwifery practice is in keeping with current research by assisting in the development of an evidence based culture and implementation of research and evidence based protocols and guidelines.
2. To assist in the maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of standards of care within the midwifery team and to assist in the implementation of recommendations from Government or Professional bodies and Patient Charter Standards in relation to maternity care.
3. To assist in the development of Health and Safety standards and the monitoring of these standards, ensuring that Trust policies are adhered to and equipment is used correctly and in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
4. To assist and support the continual review, development and improvement of maternity services.
5. When determining a pathway of care, taking a holistic history relating to the women/birth persons pregnancy, analysing all information and determining the most appropriate pathway of care.
6. To participate in the integrated midwifery model working within both community and all areas of the acute setting working shifts, including day and night shifts providing a 24-hour, 365-day service.
7. To participate in the on call service for hospital and community on calls

Qualifications
Essential criteria
8. Bachelors (BSc) Degree in Midwifery or equivalent
Desirable criteria
9. Practice assessor or prepared to work towards
10. Foundation in patient experience course
Experience
Essential criteria
11. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the service including working in the community
Desirable criteria
12. Experience of managing complaints or feedback
Technical Skills Competencies

13. Up to date core skills and training
14. Completed Preceptorship Program
15. Keyboard Skills and an ability to use IT equipment and associated maternity database
16. Competent and able to provide midwifery care in all areas
