Across Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Hertfordshire, thousands are living with advanced illness, and many of their loved ones too. Nine hospices serve these communities. The Central East Hospice Collaborative is seeking a Programme Director to join the team on a temporary/freelance basis.

* Location: Willen Hospice, Milton Keynes (flexible working, some face‑to‑face and regional travel).
* Contract: Fixed‑term 18 months, part‑time (~22.5 hours per week), freelance.
* Pay: Circa £400 per day.

Responsibilities
* Map the current landscape of services, populations, funding, data and commissioning relationships across all nine member hospices, identifying areas for improvement.
* Develop and maintain a clear, evidence‑based programme of work that advances shared ambitions and demonstrates impact for patients and families.
* Represent the Collaborative as a single credible voice at the ICB and wider system forums, making the case for hospice care as core provision.
* Identify and progress shared services and procurement opportunities to maximise the resources available for care.
* Build trusted relationships across the system, navigating differing priorities with diplomacy and pace.
* Work closely with ICB commissioners, hospice leaders, colleagues and key partners, keeping outcomes for people at the centre.
* Assist the Collaborative in aligning individual hospice strategic approaches with the ICB strategy, providing analytical insights and evidence of value.
Qualifications
* Senior leadership experience in complex health and care systems with strong knowledge of palliative and end‑of‑life care and the hospice sector.
* Demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes and equity of access for people with advanced illness.
* Ability to build consensus across multiple organisations without formal authority.
* Strong analytical capability to design data capture, interpret insights and present persuasive findings that support change.
* Confidence influencing at system level, including on sensitive or contentious issues.
