We are working with a well-established, family-owned trailer contract hire and maintenance business operating a fleet of over 3,000 trailers across the UK and Europe. With more than 30 years of industry presence and a blue-chip client base, the business has built a reputation for reliability, operational excellence, and long-term growth.
Due to continued expansion and strategic development, they are now seeking a senior General / Operations Manager to support the Operations Director and play a key role in shaping the future of the business.
This is a genuine succession-style opportunity with clear progression toward board-level involvement.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will oversee day-to-day operations across:
* Workshop (multi-shift engineering teams)
* Service & maintenance operations
* Tyre management and cost control
* KPI performance & operational efficiency
* Warranty, recharge and recoverable cost processes
* Budget oversight and performance reporting
You will gradually take on increased responsibility, allowing the Operations Director to focus on strategic growth initiatives.
This is a hands-on senior leadership role, not a desk-only position.
About You
We are specifically looking for someone with:
* A strong commercial vehicle engineering background (HGV/trailer essential)
* Previous experience leading workshops and multi-disciplinary teams
* Fleet maintenance or contract hire experience
* Proven budget responsibility and commercial awareness
* Experience managing KPIs, margins and operational performance
* The ability to influence, lead and develop teams
* A proactive, hands-on leadership style
This role will suit someone who has progressed from HGV/Workshop leadership into senior fleet or operational management and is now looking for broader responsibility and long-term progression.
