Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP or next academic term

School Overview

This Primary and Nursery School in Spinney Hills is celebrated for its inclusive ethos, nurturing environment, and strong focus on emotional and social development alongside academic achievement. Serving a culturally and socio-economically diverse community, the school prioritises early intervention and pastoral support for its youngest learners.

The school leadership recognises that early behavioural challenges often stem from unmet emotional or developmental needs. To support pupils effectively, the school has developed robust pastoral frameworks, SEND provision, and targeted behaviour mentoring programmes. With increasing numbers of pupils requiring personalised support across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is looking to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Mentor.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will provide consistent, structured support to children experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, ASD, attachment difficulties, or other developmental challenges affecting learning and social engagement.

This role involves working closely with pupils 1:1, in small group interventions, and within classroom settings, helping them build resilience, confidence, and positive social behaviours. You will also support teachers, EYFS staff, and parents to ensure consistent behaviour strategies are applied throughout the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils with additional needs

* Facilitate small group programmes focused on social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation

* Support children across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classrooms

* Assist pupils with transitions, routines, and structured/unstructured activities

* Support behaviour management during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other unstructured periods

* Implement and monitor behaviour support plans, tracking progress effectively

* Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed strategies to support positive behaviour

* Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils

* Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and outcomes of interventions

* Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency discussions

* Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals

* Collaborate closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams

* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently

* Promote a school culture of empathy, inclusion, and mutual respect

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You will recognise that challenging behaviour is often a form of communication and respond with consistency, empathy, and structured strategies.

You should demonstrate:

* Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings

* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and attachment-informed approaches

* Ability to implement behaviour interventions and monitor outcomes

* Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills

* Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving

* Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of children and staff

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are desirable but not essential.

Training, Support, and Career Development

The school provides structured induction, regular supervision, and access to specialist CPD in behaviour management, SEMH, SEND, and early intervention. This role offers clear career progression pathways into teaching, SEN support, or pastoral leadership roles.

What the School Offers

* A supportive, collaborative, and inclusive working environment

* Experienced leadership and pastoral teams

* High-quality CPD and specialist training opportunities

* A highly rewarding role with measurable impact on children’s lives

* Long-term and permanent employment opportunities

Safeguarding

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff appointments are subject to enhanced DBS clearance, references, and safer recruitment procedures.
