We are seeking a dynamic Managing Director with extensive experience in the UK fluid power industry to join a highly reputable hydraulic company, one of the largest in the UK.
The successful candidate will join a robust, long-standing, and highly skilled team across the UK.
The Role
The Managing Director will have full P&L responsibility for the company and will lead all commercial and operational growth initiatives.
You will also guide the senior management teams at four locations across the UK, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality are maintained.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced commercial leader with a proven track record in the UK hydraulics industry.
To succeed, you must be technically proficient, a strong multi-level communicator, and possess high emotional intelligence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Managing Director is responsible for driving commercial and operational excellence, bringing authority to the role.
* Strategic Leadership
Define and implement a growth strategy aligned with the company's vision and objectives.
Structure and lead a high-performing team to meet annual growth targets.
Develop personal growth plans with HR support.
Recruit and onboard strong candidates to strengthen the existing team.
* Financial Management
Own and oversee P&L performance in line with budget expectations.
Provide monthly trading updates and accurate financial forecasts.
Manage all capex requirements and approval processes.
* Commercial Excellence
Implement key account management practices to maintain and grow client relationships.
Identify new business opportunities to drive revenue growth.
Report monthly on business activity and revenue forecasts.
Utilize CRM and pipeline management tools effectively.
Leverage group marketing resources for marketing, networking, and exhibitions.
* Operational Excellence
Oversee all business operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
Define and monitor key operational metrics.
Maintain positive relationships with key suppliers.
* Quality, Health & Safety
Collaborate with the Group Head of QSS to promote a safety-focused culture.
Own HS reporting for accidents, near-misses, and improvements.
Support annual quality & HS audits and ensure improvements are implemented.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 10 years of senior management experience in a leading UK hydraulic solutions company.
* Strong knowledge of the UK fluid power industry and extensive industry connections.
* P&L ownership experience in an SME with a turnover of approximately £10-15 million.
* Experience in budgeting and financial forecasting.
* Skills in supplier management, procurement, and inventory control.
* Proficiency in data management and analysis.
* Experience in process improvement initiatives.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a decentralized, multi-entity group.
* Willingness to travel across the UK, including overnight stays.
