Peer Support Worker/Liaison and Diversion Location: 105a Howard Street North Shields Tyne and Wear NE30 1NA Working Hours: 22.5 hours Contract Type: Permanent Salary:£24,243-£28,930- salary will be pro rata's based on part time hours Please note: The salary listed reflects the full earning potential for this role. Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job its a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change. About the role: The purpose and scope of this role is to encourage service users, including those hard to reach, with complex need to engage with the Liaison and Diversion Service, other agencies and referral pathways. Provide engagement, emotional and other support and advocacy and may also assist in recruiting and overseeing volunteers. The role will involve supporting people to navigate through the Criminal Justice System, to access support for mental health needs as well as other vulnerabilities including substance misuse, (alcohol and drugs), homelessness, intellectual disabilities and behaviours that challenge. What you'll do: Build positive and supportive relationships with service users to enable them to develop their action and support plan. Alongside Mental Health Practitioners support people in police custody suites who have been arrested. Support community Link Workers in the delivery of drop in sessions for people newly released from Police Custody Suites and those newly referred to the service. Encouraging and supporting people including those hard to reach, with complex need to engage with the Liaison and Diversion Service, other agencies and referral pathways. Assist people setting realistic and positive goals and support people to review their progress. Provide practical support to service users in gaining choice, meaning and purpose of life and independence whilst maintaining dignity and respect. Share personal recovery experiences appropriately, enabling individuals to recover. Support service users in the development of personal and life skills with the aim of attaining greater independence and self-esteem, providing emotional support necessary to do so. Ensure confidentiality of the service and that the clients are respected at all times.
