Overview
The Compliance Business Partner role at Somerset Bridge Group (SBG) is designed to independently perform regulatory compliance advisory activities. This enables assurance to be given to Senior Management and the Governing Body of SBG, ensuring the company operates with integrity. The role supports the group's ambition to deliver exceptional customer experiences by providing strategic support and advice to the business area, helping it grow while upholding the standards and requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
You will be a visible and accessible compliance presence for the business and key stakeholders; the go-to person for the business on compliance and integrity matters, utilising your communication and influencing skills. You will work closely with the Compliance Assurance team and other business departments to maintain compliance with SBG policies, procedures and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
What you'll be responsible for
* Building and managing effective and collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders.
* Providing effective compliance advice through the successful management of stakeholder relationships.
* Identifying emerging risks and regulatory change and supporting implementation work led by business areas.
* Supporting business areas in identifying and managing conduct related risks, including implementation of controls.
* Supporting business areas in maintaining strong regulatory relationships including by prompt, correct regulatory reporting.
* Providing subject matter expertise on UK General Insurance matters.
* Proactively providing support, guidance and challenge on compliance issues.
* Handling and documenting internal and regulatory queries in an adequate and timely fashion (e.g. regulatory enquiries, data queries and consultations).
* Proactively supporting and guiding business change and operational initiatives to achieve compliance in a cost effective and business friendly manner (compliance by design).
* Becoming the go-to person including arrangement and delivery of internal compliance training.
* Providing input for the development of compliance policies and procedures regarding regulatory requirements.
* Identifying and escalating risks and control deficiencies to management and proposing solutions to mitigate future issues.
What you'll need
* Demonstrates good knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements and key conduct related priorities within the insurance industry.
* Ability to manage a portfolio of work, balancing the demands of delivering high quality work and meeting deadlines.
* A clear understanding of risk, controls, and materiality.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Methodical, analytical, curious mindset with tenacity and objectivity.
* Ability to quickly understand new businesses, processes, or products and to logically analyse and assess them.
* Confidence to engage with challenging or senior stakeholders while maintaining professional integrity.
* Sound judgement; raise and report only material issues and work with the business to agree practical solutions.
* Maintain confidentiality of sensitive business information.
* Drive and determination to develop within the role by increasing technical knowledge and building effective business relationships.
* Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to develop trusted relationships, including influencing peers.
* Genuine passion for continuous improvement through building positive relationships with regulators and researching the compliance landscape.
* Hybrid working – 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home.
