Job summary

Are you an experienced Clinical Pharmacist with a passion for infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and HIV care? Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Lead Pharmacist to join our multidisciplinary team, with a unique opportunity to shape and deliver both HIV pharmacy services and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) across the Trust. You will also be the named lead for Antifungal Stewardship (AFS).


About the Role

This is a senior post with a 50:50 split between HIV pharmacy and AMS responsibilities, plus acting as the lead for antifungal stewardship. You will:

* Lead and develop HIV pharmacy services, providing advanced clinical input and supporting MDTs.
* Drive AMS initiatives, including policy development, audit, training, and reporting.
* Oversee quality improvement projects, service development, and strategic priorities.
* Collaborate with colleagues across specialties, and regional/national networks.
* Be the named lead for Antifungal Stewardship


About You

You will be a registered pharmacist with substantial post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, ideally with expertise in infectious diseases, HIV, and/or antimicrobial stewardship. You will have:

* Advanced clinical knowledge and experience in HIV and AMS.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
* Experience in service development, audit, and multidisciplinary working.
* Independent prescribing qualification (or working towards).
* A commitment to patient-centred care, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities and/or Qualifications

Essential — Qualifications: Masters level degree in pharmacy; registered with the GPhC; Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent); registered independent prescriber with the GPhC; Train the trainer course (or equivalent).

Desirable — MSc in Clinical Pharmacy; leadership/management development; risk management; medicines reconciliation; Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership; research degrees or progress.

Experience — Essential: extensive post-registration hospital experience as a clinical pharmacist (band 8a), patient consultations, wide clinical coverage, practical implementation of national guidance (e.g., NICE), antimicrobial stewardship, drug expenditure analysis, high-cost medicines management, and project leadership. Desirable: experience at band 8b, cross-site experience, independent prescribing for a patient group, business case development, research leadership, and multi-site practice.

Knowledge — Essential: advanced clinical knowledge in the specialty, NICE/HEE/NHS guidelines, NHS changes, IT literacy, electronic prescribing, clinical audit, non-medical prescribing, NHS commissioning. Desirable: further IT and research methodology knowledge.

Skills — Essential: expert practice at Advanced Stage II, strong organisation, communication, leadership, teaching, report writing, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, resilience under pressure, staff training materials. Desirable: ability to write research proposals and grant applications.
