Job Summary
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Therapy Support Worker – Orthopaedics and Surgical wards. You will be expected to assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering a high quality service for patients on the surgical and orthopaedic wards in the hospital.
Responsibilities
* Teaching patients exercise programmes
* Helping patients to walk and move
* Working with patients to achieve as much independence as possible with washing, dressing, toileting tasks and preparing hot drinks and meals
* Assisting the therapist during treatment sessions
* Issuing mobility and functional equipment
* Administrative tasks
Core duties of the job:
* Undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
* Accept patients referred by the Multi‑disciplinary Team and relay all necessary information to the therapists to allow timely interventions
* Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression and make alterations within agreed parameters
* Work is not always directly supervised but is evaluated and monitored daily; qualified staff is always available if required; patient progress is reported in a timely manner
* Assist in the administration and clerical duties of the team
* Develop and maintain competencies through Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Qualifications and Training
* Education to GCSE or equivalent with grade C in English
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
Experience
* Experience as therapy assistant
* Evidence of working in a team
Desirable
* NHS working
* Acute hospital experience
Knowledge and Skills
* Working knowledge of a range of common illnesses and conditions
* Good interpersonal skills

Contract and Pay
Band 3 – Pay Scheme: Agenda for Change, Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum.
Working Pattern
Permanent, full‑time or part‑time.

Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Lewsey Road, Luton, LU4 0DZ.
