Job Overview

39 weeks per year, term-time + 5 inset days.

34 hours per week | 8.10am - 15.30pm, Monday - Thursday & 8.10am - 15.20pm, Friday.

Flexibility around start and finish times can be considered and should be discussed at the interview.

The Buckingham School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful candidate will be working to support students with special educational needs or disabilities in the classroom, mostly, though not exclusively, in English, Maths and Science. We are looking for colleagues who enjoy working with young people, have a flexible and positive approach and enjoy working as part of a team. We will also need you to support with First Aid as and when required.

The Successful Candidate Will

Support the student by:

* Developing an understanding of the specific needs of pupils to be supported.
* Developing a knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to the school and pupils.
* Aiding the pupil/s to learn as effectively as possible, both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom.
* Establishing a supportive relationship with the pupil/s concerned.
* Establishing acceptance and inclusion of the pupil/s in the classroom.
* Managing pupil/s as advised by the SEND Manager and Class Teacher.
* Using methods of promoting/reinforcing the pupils’ self-esteem.
* Ensuring the safety of the pupil/s while in your care.
* Carrying out any specific duties as outlined in the pupil/s Individual Support Plan.

Support The SEND Manager And Class Teacher By

* Assisting the SEND Manager and Class Teacher to develop a suitable programme of support and then carrying out the programme, within the classroom or in a withdrawal situation.
* Maintaining the SEN team’s system of recording and monitoring pupils’ progress.
* Providing feedback about pupils’ difficulties and / or progressing to the SEND Manager and Class Teacher.
* Writing reports about the pupil/s’ progress as requested by the SEND Manager.
* Participating in the evaluation of the support programme, with the SEND Manager and Class Teacher.
* Helping adapt / find differentiated materials to enable pupil/s to access the class curriculum.
* Reporting any problems about arrangements or any incidents to the SEND Manager, or if unavailable, to the Class Teacher.

Support The School By

* Where appropriate, fostering links between home and school.
* Liaising, advising and consulting with other members of the SEN Team.
* Contributing to Annual Review meetings, as appropriate.
* Participating in relevant professional development.
* Being aware of / following school policies and procedures.
* Maintaining confidentiality about home-school / pupil-teacher/ schoolwork matters.
* Completing any other task as directed by the Headteacher.
