Position Summary
This on-site role will involve the production, purification, and QC analysis of viruses from mammalian cells. Experience in manufacturing processes (USP/DSP and QC) is highly advantageous. Ideally, candidates will have experience in recombinant protein, virus, or biologic manufacture in an industrial setting. The role suits motivated individuals eager to learn and master new methods and techniques.
The position reports to the Production Manager, Cell Line Development, at our UK Edinburgh headquarters.
Job Responsibilities
* Produce R&D scale adeno-associated virus (AAV) by cell culture and downstream purification.
* Perform QC analysis of AAV batches.
* Prepare cell culture media and reagents.
* Maintain good lab management, control over scientific data, equipment, and materials, and proper documentation.
* Support project deliverables within the team.
* Conduct Health and Safety, GMO risk assessments, and COSHH procedures.
* Align with core values: Innovate to make gene therapies accessible, be a collaborative team member, communicate openly, and uphold scientific and ethical standards.
* Qualifications:
o Master’s degree in Biology, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field, or Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience, or 6+ years of relevant experience.
o Experience in virus production (preferably AAV), recombinant proteins, biologics, and aseptic cell culture techniques.
o Fundamental lab skills: pipetting, aliquoting, media/solution prep.
o Attention to detail and precision in work.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
* Knowledge of purification (DSP) and analytics (QC) for bioproducts is advantageous.
* Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and sequence analysis is beneficial.
* Effective communication skills across team and management.
* Experience with H&S, COSHH, and risk assessments.
* Ability to manage workload independently to meet deadlines.
