Trainee Engineering Services Technician - Early Careers Opportunity

Aircraft Research Association (ARA) is a unique SME and the UK's leading independent transonic wind tunnel with a passionate workforce of engineering and aerodynamic professionals. We are a leading specialist in aerodynamic research providing complementary services and solutions to international aerospace and defence clients. Our clients include Saab, Bombardier, Boeing, Turkish Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Comac and BAE Systems.

Typical projects include producing scaled-down military and civilian aircraft models, comprising multiple parts, which are assembled together and used as highly accurate forces/pressures measuring devices within the on-site high-speed (transonic) wind tunnel.

We're inviting enthusiastic, hands-on individuals to join our Early Careers Programme as a Trainee Engineering Services Technician. This structured 3-year development role offers exposure to specialist engineering techniques across key areas: planned and reactive maintenance, support troubleshooting and repair activities and contribution to the installation and commissioning of new plant equipment.

Over three years, you'll rotate across these disciplines before joining one of our expert teams long-term. You'll work alongside some of the best technicians in the business, gain technical qualifications, and develop the practical skills to launch a long and successful engineering career.________________________________________

What We're Looking For


* 3 A Levels or equivalent (T Levels, BTEC Level 3) - ideally with a STEM focus
* A natural interest in mechanical or electrical engineering in practice, aerospace, or data
* A team player with a can-do attitude and excellent attention to detail
* Eager to learn, solve problems, and contribute from day one

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to our ARA Futures Day at our Bedford offices on Wednesday 9th July 2025 from 1:00pm. You'll get to meet the team, explore our wind tunnel facility, and take part in our interactive selection experience.
