Job summary

This is an opportunity for a cardiologist to join our growing team caring for adult patients with congenital heart disease in South West Britain. This post is a maternity cover for 9 months.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for dynamic individuals who want to join our ACHD team. The following subspecialty interests are desirable: Imaging, including peri‑procedural imaging. The expected ACHD on‑call and ward cover commitment will be approximately 1 in 5, with cross cover. The post‑holder will work in close collaboration with the ACHD team, consultant cardiologists, paediatric cardiologists, congenital cardiac surgeons, obstetricians, cardiac anaesthetists and the intensive care teams.

The post‑holder will be provided with an adequately equipped office, including information technology facilities and will have secretarial and administrative support.

The contract will be held with the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. The post‑holder will also have responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Division and the Trust.


Qualifications and training

* MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following:
o Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) – the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview
o Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
* Meet professional health requirements
* Willingness to travel to and work in other sites necessitated by the role


Knowledge and experience

* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Cardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease
* Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
* Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
* Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty


Skills and abilities

* Demonstrate an interest and experience in research with publications in peer‑reviewed journals
* Demonstrate experience in, and a willingness to continue teaching medical undergraduates, postgraduates and other non‑medical professionals with evidence of effectiveness
* Ability to inspire, motivate and develop trainee medical staff
* Good communication skills with colleagues and patients
* Commitment to continuing medical education
* Inquiring and critical approach to work
* Ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances


Additional & aptitudes

* Experience in organising audit
* Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service
* Ability to organise and prioritise and manage workload
* Experience in management or leadership
* Ability to work in, motivate and lead a multi‑disciplinary team


Desirable

* Ability to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
