About the apprenticeship
Duties
Supervise and provide special support for students, including some with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
Assist with the learning and development of each student, including implementing Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes – including toileting, feeding and mobility.
Following training, administer medication in accordance with procedures and policies for the LA and schools.
Promote inclusion and acceptance of every student.
Encourage students to interact with others and participate in activities under the direction of the teacher.
Set challenging and stretching expectations and encourage self-respect and independence.
Under the guidance of the teacher, provide feedback to students regarding progress and achievement.
Apply strategies to encourage independence and self-confidence.
Provide effective feedback to students regarding programmes and identify and reward achievement.
Requirements
Qualifications
GCSE Grade A-C Experience:
Working with children of the appropriate age, or caring for them.
Working on a one-to-one basis with students with additional needs.
Qualifications:
Good numeracy/literacy skills.
Training in relevant strategies to support learning.
First aid training as appropriate.
Knowledge/Skills:
Effective learning materials to support learning.
Using basic equipment and technology, e.g., video, photocopier.
Understanding relevant policies/practice codes and awareness of relevant legislation.
General understanding of the national/foundation stage, 14-19 curriculum pathways, and other relevant learning programmes/strategies as appropriate.
Basic understanding of child development and learning.
Ability to relate well with children and adults.
Working constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom functions and responsibilities and your own role within them.
Skills
